The majesty of Christ the King is revealed in the Book of Matthew. The one key phrase that is repeated 37 times in Matthew is “…this was to fulfill what the Lord has spoken by the prophet.” If you enjoy prophecy, you will enjoy tracing more than 300 Old Testament prophecies fulfilled in the Gospel of Matthew. Matthew also includes the practical answers to daily living with the Sermon on the Mount. The Beatitudes focus on (1) the works of a Christian and (2) the goals of a Christian. Jesus did not challenge His disciples to “become” salt and light. He simply said that we are salt and light. Matthew places the emphasis on who we are … not what we do. If we are who God wants us to be, then we will do what God wants us to do.
