Philippians is the book of joy. Have you noticed that God seldom answers prayers the same way twice? Once Paul and Silas were singing in the midnight hour in jail, God caused an earthquake to break the chains and set them free. Now ten years later, Paul is in jail for the cause of Christ. This time, God keeps Paul chained to the elite Roman guard and Paul uses the captivity to witness to the guards. God can use my trial as his too! In spite of my circumstances, I can always rejoice in the Lord. God is in control of my steps as well as my “stops.” I belong to Him and that brings me joy!
